2008 Covenant Signing at the future Church of the Holy Spirit April 6th, 2008

The Rt. Rev. Roy F. “Bud” Cederholm, bishop
suffragan of the Episcopal Diocese of
Massachusetts, is both tuneful and ebullient as he
accompanies the signs of peace exchanged by
members of the new Church of the Holy Spirit.
Church of the Ascension Pastor Patricia D.
Gober signs a joint covenant as the Rt. Rev. Roy
“Bud“ Cederholm, left, and the Rev. Wallace G.
Gober, pastor of St. John’s-St. Stephen’s
Episcopal Partnership, wait to sign during a
service at Church of the Ascension, which will be
renamed the Church of the Holy Spirit.
Margaret Addison, 4, looks heavenward during
Sunday’s service. Previously, her family
attended St. Mark’s Church and now will be
members of the congregation at Church of the
Holy Spirit.
Terry and Bob Halliwell, formerly members of the St.
John's-St. Stephen's Episcopal Partnership,
participate in Sunday's service at what will be Church
of the Holy Spirit.
Seen with the church's new name applied to a
Sunday school banner, Bishop Roy F. Cederholm
teaches the children a song of greeting, as they
are put in charge of leading the way for the
congregation's sign of peace during the service.
The soaring sanctuary of Church of the Ascension on
Rock Street is now the home to three congregations
looking to merge into the Church of the Holy Spirit.
After a planned merger of
three churches, The
Episcopal Church of the
Ascension on Rock
Street will become the
Church of the Holy Spirit.
Wine and bread for the Eucharist are carried
forward by Nicholas Phillips, 11, left, and Cory
Higginbottom, 12.
Vividly-colored stained
glass windows
dominate the walls of
the church. This one
depicts Jesus healing
the sick.
At the end of the service, members of the
choir sing as they leave.

Sundays service.
